International Symposium on Japanese Studies
„Center and Periphery in Japanese Culture”

Season’s Greetings from Romania!
We are very happy to inform you that the Center for Japanese Studies of the University of Bucharest will organize The 6th International Symposium on Japanese Studies from 5 to 7 March, 2016. The title of the symposium is “Center and Periphery in Japanese Culture”
One of the main objectives of this symposium is to strengthen the networking between researchers in the field of Japanese studies and to create new opportunities of collaboration between scholars in Europe and Japan. The previous editions of the symposium were very successful from this point of view.
We would like to invite you to propose individual presentations on one of the following topics, along the lines of the general theme of the symposium:
- anthropology and religion
- economy and politics
- media studies
- international relations
Presentations will be 20 minutes long and will be followed by 10-minute discussions.
In the third day of the conference, there will also be a panel discussion session, meant to give the opportunity to the participants to discuss possible joint research projects in the field of Japanese studies.
The languages of the symposium are English and Japanese.
There is no participation fee.
Please submit anonymous abstracts (English: 500 words, Japanese: 1000 characters) as a Word file, attached to an email by January, 27, 2016, to the following address: email@example.com
Please include in the e-mail message your name, title and affiliation.
Selection results will be announced around February 5, 2016.
Due to the sponsorship of the Japan Foundation, we can cover the travel and accommodation expenses for some young researchers in Europe.
If you wish to apply for the financial support please send together with the abstract of your presentation, a CV including your research activity (publications, conference presentations) and a motivation letter (half page) to firstname.lastname@example.org.(deadline: January, 27, 2016)
The recipients of the financial support will be selected by The Organizing Committee and will be notified by February 5, 2016.
